Meet Bruce Airhead (Full Festival)

Bruce Airhead

It’s sophisticated,
elegant, urbane…
… sometimes
It’s spectacular,
surreal, sweaty…
… always
The metamorphosis of a man and six foot balloon.

Add together one man and a giant balloon and you get an unforgettable performance.

You are guaranteed to be amazed – both by the brightness of Bruce’s lycra shorts, and his ability to slide into a gigantic balloon.  And then, of course, there is the explosive finish which is unlike anything you will expect!

Want to see how he does it? Catch Bruce Airhead for the full Jive Cape Town Funny Festival delivered by Turkish Airlines, taking place at the Baxter Theatre between 20 July and 16 August 2015.

Bruce Airhead answers our questions:

How old were you when you appeared on stage for the very first time?
I entered the world of show biz quite late. It wasn’t until I was 30 that I first stepped on stage.

That moment when you realised you wanted to be a performer for the rest of your life…
I remember it well: it was after I received my first standing ovation and my first cheque, when I realised that I could make a living from something that gave me so much pleasure. And it seemed like a win-win situation – the audience received pleasure from my show, I received pleasure from the audience’s response, AND I got paid… happy days!

You’ve performed all over the world.  What is your most memorable moment?
Without a doubt it was in Beijing in China. I was working on a promotional event and we performed in the Forbidden City. It was the first time that the Chinese government had allowed the Forbidden City to be used as a venue, and I remember performing my act on a small stage. And during the show I looked out in the distance and saw Tiananmen Square and the Communist Party headquarters… it was very surreal!

What do you look forward to most about #FunnyFest2015?
The people. It’s always the people, then the landscape and architecture, and the feel of the place. I can’t wait!
